Noises The Maynard Man Doesn’t Want Your AC to Make

The Maynard Man cares about Nashville residents. At Maynard, we want our customers to be comfortable and healthy in their homes, at a reasonable cost.

The best way to ensure this is the case is to properly take care of your air conditioner. This starts with first having your air conditioner professionally installed. After that, you need the same trustworthy team to keep your air conditioner well maintained and address repair needs.

But what if you don’t know you have any repair needs? Unfortunately, this doesn’t have to be your reality. There are signs you can watch for–or rather, listen for–that indicate you need AC repairs. Strange noises are one of those signs! Read on to learn what noises qualify as strange, and a reason to call The Maynard Man.

Hissing or Bubbling

Do you detect a hissing or bubbling noise coming from your outdoor unit? This can be indicative of a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant is the chemical substance that makes the cooling process possible, and when you have a leak it can lead to a loss of cooling, and eventually severe compressor damage.

Screeching

This is most commonly the sign of a worn motor bearing. Your blower fan has a motor that keeps it running, and eventually, due to nothing more than natural wear and tear, the lubrication on the motor bearings wear down. This isn’t a huge problem, but if you let it go without addressing it, it can cause the motor to burn out.

Clanging

This can be a sign of a loose component. Like the above-mentioned problem, this is typically due to wear and tear. But it’s still not a repair need you want to wait to address. It can have a bit of a “domino effect” on other components of your system, leading to emergency repair needs or even a complete AC system breakdown.

Shrieking

Do you hear something that resembles metal on metal? Then you probably are hearing metal on metal. This is usually the sign of worn lubrication like we mentioned above, or it can be that a component has started coming loose and is rubbing on another component of the system that it shouldn’t be. The friction can cause your system to overheat or lead to other problems.

Whether you hear any of the above noises or hear something you just think is unusual, it’s worth a call to our team!
