5 Signs of Sewer Line Trouble To Watch For

The Maynard Man and team understand that your sewer line is one of the most important components of your plumbing system—if not the most important. This is why we want to do everything we can to help you to protect yours.

Unfortunately, it can be pretty easy to miss sewer line damage. After all your sewer line is buried underground. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Just like any other plumbing pipe, a sewer line wears down and can suffer damage from clogs or leaking. Fortunately, The Maynard Man has the solutions you need. But first, you need to know if you even have sewer line trouble, right?

Do You Have a Damaged Sewer Line?

When something is amiss with your sewer line, there are actually a number of warning signs you can look out for. These include:

  • Foul Smells Coming from the Drains: If there’s a single drain in your home that’s a bit smelly, it is likely a problem isolated to that single drain. You could probably use a home remedy such as baking soda and vinegar to eliminate the smell. But if the smell is permeating from multiple drains throughout the home, then it’s probably a sewer line blockage or backup that you’re facing.
  • Backup Into the Sinks or Tub: Have you ever gone to flush a toilet only to notice that water comes up through the shower drain or sink drain? This is indicative of a blockage, and your sewer line could very well be to blame.
  • Moisture around Your Basement Drains: If you discover any water around the drains in your basement, but there hasn’t been any water going down them recently, then it could be that you have a sewer line blockage that’s leading to backup.
  • Lush, Green Patches in the Yard: When you have a sewer line leak, the waste and water that escapes will essentially fertilize your landscaping. If you notice some areas of your yard are greener than others and there is no other apparent explanation, you could very well be facing a sewer line leak.
  • Clogged Drains Around the House: Similar to the foul smells we mentioned earlier, a single clogged drain probably isn’t a huge cause for concern. It should still be dealt with by a professional plumber, of course, but it’s typically when multiple drains are clogged throughout your home that it indicates a sewer line problem.

If you notice any of the above-mentioned symptoms or if you have other concerns about your plumbing system, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
