The Maynard Man wants you to be satisfied with the level of
comfort in your home. This is why we provide exceptional HVAC services and
more. Whether temperatures are bitterly cold or sweltering hot, we have the
solutions you need.
But improving your comfort is about much more than
temperature. It’s about how much you’re paying for that comfort, your indoor air quality, and your overall quality
of life! If you’re not doing everything possible to make sure your heater use
is efficient, then you’re paying too much for comfort that’s not up to par
anyway.
The Maynard Man is here to help! We’ve provided some tips to
help you improve heating efficiency and start saving more on those pesky energy
costs.
Get a New Thermostat!
Have you heard about all the advancements in thermostat
technology? If you’re still using a manual slider thermostat, or even a basic
digital one that’s about a decade old, you could be doing better.
The thermostat of your HVAC systems serves as the “brain” of
those systems, giving you a way to communicate with them. Today’s WiFi and
Smart thermostats allow you complete personalized control over your climate
control systems and even learn from
your heating and cooling preferences to bring you the best in comfort and
efficiency, ultimately saving you money in energy costs.
Apply Weatherstripping and Draft Stoppers
The heat from your furnace, heat pump, or even boiler system
can leave through cracks in your windows and doors—not to mention the cold air
from outside can creep inside. This
means that energy you’re paying for? It’s walking right out the door,
literally!
You might want to consider investing in some basic
weatherstripping and draft stoppers to keep the heat in and the cold out. This
will benefit you in the summer time too, when you need to keep the cooled air
in and the hot air out.
Turn on Those Ceiling Fans—In Reverse!
Turning on your ceiling fans may seem like a strange concept
in the winter. After all, aren’t ceiling fans used to keep your home cool? Well, yes, but they’re not just
for that.
You see, your ceiling fans help you feel cooler by better distributing the cool air already present in
your home. So when you use it in combination with your air conditioner, you’ll
likely find that you can turn the thermostat up a few degrees. That way, the
air conditioner doesn’t have to run as long and voila, you’re not using as much
energy!
This same concept can be applied in the wintertime, with a
simple flip of a switch—there’s a small switch near the center of your fan that
when flipped, will reverse the direction of the fan blades. When moving in the
opposite direction, they help to pull heat down into your home, therefore
helping your heater do its job of keeping you warm.
These are just a few ways to boost your heating efficiency.
Don’t forget, keeping up on your annual maintenance (or biannual, if you have a
heat pump system) is integral in energy savings too.
